Drs. Choi & Choi and our team love providing dental care for children. We know that beginning care and helping establish good oral habits early is essential to great oral health in the long run. Because of this, we are happy to offer advice about children’s oral hygiene in San Francisco, California.
Before your baby’s teeth begin growing in, use a clean, soft cloth to clean your baby’s gums. As soon as you see your child’s primary (baby) tooth, it is time to start caring for his or her smile. Use a soft-bristled baby toothbrush twice a day. Until your child is 3 years old, use water instead of toothpaste. From ages 3 to 6, use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste for your child. If you use fluoride toothpaste, closely monitor your children’s tooth brushing and make sure they spit out any extra toothpaste. Flossing is also an important part of your child’s oral hygiene routine. Once your child has teeth that touch each other, begin flossing his or her teeth.
We encourage you to contact our dental office at 415-986-1491 today to learn more about caring for your child’s teeth and to schedule his or her next visit with our dentists. We look forward to seeing you and your family at our office!
